4 fresh ideas for gallery walls

by Aryn Hellmund 03/20/2024

Gallery walls have stood the test of time and have become more than a trend in home decor. Gallery walls are a creative way to display prints, art pieces and other wall decor and show your personal creativity. While there are limitless options for gallery walls, it might seem difficult to get started. To help inspire you, here are some ideas for designing your own gallery wall at home:

Hang a gallery above your couch or bed

A gallery wall is an excellent way to use the wall space above your sofa or bed. When placing one of these large furniture items against a wall, it often creates a mystery over how to decorate the space above. While floating shelves and single, large art pieces are a great solution, try adding a gallery wall with a mix of smaller pieces to add interest to the space.

Create a staircase gallery

Staircases are another perfect opportunity for a gallery wall. While many homeowners might decorate this space with personal photos, many more simply leave the space empty. To make more efficient and interesting use of the staircase wall, create a gallery to accompany every trip up and down the stairs. Neutral, non-distracting imagery will make it aesthetically pleasing without causing traffic hazards on the stairs.

Get inspired with a workspace gallery wall

Virtual interior design and inspiration apps are essentials for many homeowners' creative endeavors. By creating a gallery wall in your office or workspace containing inspiring images, quotes and other decor, you can bring your Pinterest boards to life. Include inspiring artwork and other curated pieces to show off your personal style while improving your focus and motivation.

Think outside the frame

There are plenty of ways to make gallery walls without a single piece of art, photography or other flat media. In fact, it's a popular trend to create gallery walls with objects like baskets or even decorative dishware. You can mix and match these items throughout your gallery designs or make something bold and new. The options are limitless--anything you add to a gallery wall becomes a work of art.
